Over 93,500 data science jobs were vacant in India at the end of August, according to a new report.
The number of open positions is down slightly from 109,000 in February, though demand has been fairly consistent across key industry sectors, according to the study on jobs and hiring trends in analytics and data science by Great Learning.
Factors contributing to the demand include a year-on-year increase in funding in Indian analytics startups, investment in enhanced analytics, and a greater proportion of jobs outsourced to firms based in India owing to the pandemic.
The median salary for data science professionals in India is Rs 9.5 lakhs (US$12,900) per annum in 2020, the report says. Those with more than a decade of experience earn packages in the range of Rs 25 lakh (US$34,100) to Rs 50 lakh (US$68,200), depending on the role and expertise.
