Cifellows Project Fosters Computing Innovation

The Computing Innovation Fellows project announced by the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) and the Computing Research Association (CRA) will award grants to 30 to 60 new PhD graduates this summer for one-to-two year postdoctoral positions at approximately 50 different U.S. organizations. Backed by funding from the National Science Foundation, the fellowships are available to graduates from U.S. PhD programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Science, and closely related fields. The goal is to retain CIFellows in research and teaching positions at U.S. organizations, and to support intellectual renewal and diversity in the computing fields.
CIFellows will be awarded positions at universities, industrial research laboratories, and other organizations that advance the field of computing. Each will receive a 12-month salary of $75,000 plus approximately $25,000 for fringe benefits and a $15,000 allowance for moving, travel, and discretionary expenses. CIFellows must have graduated between May 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009.
Applications will be available at the CIFellows Web site on Friday, May 22, 2009. The site includes submission requirements and an applications checklist, plus a list of frequently asked questions. Questions may also be emailed to [email protected].
Preference will be given to U.S. citizens and permanent residents, but others will be considered. Each CIFellow must have a mentor at a host organization. Information for mentors and a list of prospective mentors is available online.
Applications must be submitted by June 9, 2009. Awards are expected to be announced by July 10, 2009. Assignments must begin by November 1, 2009.
