Discussing Empirical Answers to Questions of Software Engineering
Two earlier articles, starting here, showcased the progress in empirical studies of software engineering over the past decades and noted that it is important to move the focus to what is important for practicing software developers, not just what can be studied (the lamppost temptation). They also stated that a workshop would take place on this topic in the Fall. The workshop announcement is now out: EAQSE 18, Empirical Answers to Questions of Software Engineering, with Springer LNCS post-conference publication; its description and Call for Papers are available here and the deadline for submission is September 15.
Whether or not you plan to submit an article, and particularly if you are a practicing software developer or manager, please contribute your example "important questions" on the problem contribution page created for the workshop. I just noticed that it already includes references to two survey articles on the topic, one by Andrew Begel and Thomas Zimmerman, the other by Monika and Gupta and others.
