A new fuzzy ontology-based system can help with decision-making, according to researchers at the University of Granada and Abo Akademi. Designed to serve as a virtual moderator, the tool can help people in difficult negotiations reach consensus, such as parties looking to protect their interests in the European Union framework. Moreover, the system could assist people in making everyday decisions, such as choosing a wine at a restaurant.
The team views the tool as an advance for the field of artificial intelligence, and note that fuzzy ontologies represent the relationships among basic concepts. "Ontology represents a large amount of information that can be used by a virtual moderator to exert influence on negotiators and help reach consensus," say University of Granada professor Enrique Herrera Viedma.
