Based on a salary survey conducted by Global Knowledge and Tech Republic, there are more than 15 technical certifications that are in high demand for jobs that pay over $100,000. The research was conducted in late 2012, based on a survey of 9,500 tech professionals that asked about their compensation and their IT certifications. There are, obviously, other factors that contribute to compensation including how many years of experience you have, the area of the country you live in, and how many people you manage.
At the top of the list of valuable tech skills is Six Sigma ($116,987), a method of project management and quality control popular with large enterprises. Other popular titles include Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), at $106,933; Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), at $109,943; Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), at $116,863; and Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Routing & Switching (CCIE R&S), at $132,696. This certification is Cisco's quintessential networking design certification.
Also cracking the Top 15 were the following certifications: CCIE Security, at $168,769; Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), at $126,355; COBIT, an IT governance framework, at $122,418; Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP), at $102,085; Microsoft Certified Master (MCM), at $144,131; and Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate, at $113,731, which shows mastery of Oracle's database.
