Why Indian Students are Opting for Overseas Undergraduate Studies

A growing number of the brightest and best Indian students are choosing overseas education at the undergrad level, rather than waiting for postgraduate studies. Many high-school students in India have zeroed in on the U.S. as an undergrad destination while in their early high-school years.

"Before that, IITs were definitely my first choice," says Kolkata teenager Arunavha Chanda, referring to the Indian Institutes of Technology. "However, my eyes were opened by various online media reports showing that while IITs are the best in India, they are not even among the the top 200 universities in global rankings. The U.S. on the other hand boasts institutions among the best in the world," says Chanda, who chose Columbia University.
