A Machine in the Co-Pilot's Seat
The co-pilot's seat on this plane was occupied by the Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System, or Alias, which intends to augment, rather than replace, human piloting in the cockpit.

Joel Walker, a test pilot for Aurora Flight Sciences, a maker of autonomous aircraft, flew his small, twin-engine plane through rain squalls here recently, and before it reached 5,000 feet, he pushed a red button on his joystick that transferred control of the plane to his co-pilot.
