The Student ACM chapter at the University of Oklahoma will host Hacklahoma, a 24-hour hackathon that encourages students to invent and share technological creations.
Hacklahoma is the university's first hackathon, an event where people come together and practice different types of computer programming and work on different types of projects. The event will start Saturday (March 3) and conclude Sunday.
Computer science junior John Tran, a co-founder of Hacklahoma, was amazed by the creative spirit fostered by a hackathon he attended at MIT and wanted to have an OU hackathon, which he describes as an "invention marathon."
The event is free and open to all OU students, regardless of their majors. It is meant to be a learning experience. Students can participate individually or in groups of up to four people. "It's not so much of a competition. It's more of an event to learn about technology," Tran says.
