Artificial intelligence is poised to become one of the most disruptive technologies of the century. A new study of the top graduate programs for artificial intelligence, part of the closely watched U.S. News & World Report rankings, reveals which universities are poised to lead this revolution.

The top five graduate-level artificial intelligence programs, according to the report, are:

  1. Carnegie Mellon University
  2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  3. Stanford University
  4. University of California, Berkeley
  5. University of Washington

In computer science programs overall, CMU, MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley tied for No. 1, while UW tied with Cornell University for No. 6. In computer engineering, UW tied for No. 9.

The rankings are based on a combination of statistical data that reflects the quality of each program, and surveys asking experts and academics to evaluate programs.
