New York-based startup Trilogy Education Services has raised an additional $50 million from investors to fund its expanding number of coding boot camps.
Some 100 coding boot camps offering cram courses in computer languages and the promise of landing well-paying programming jobs earned total revenue last year of $266 million, according to CourseReport, a research group. Critics have suggested that there is a boot camp glut and that graduates don't always have the skills employers need.
Trilogy sets itself apart by running its courses on the campuses of prestigious schools like Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania. Trilogy founder and CEO Dan Sommer says that schools approve the adjunct instructors Trilogy hires and that professors at the schools approve Trilogy's curriculum.
Trilogy customizes the offerings on each campus after assessing local businesses' need to hire workers with particular tech skills.
