A survey by recruitment firm Harvey Nash found half of 1,200 technology professionals in the U.K. would like to switch jobs in 2020, with salary and work-life balance the most important drivers. Meanwhile, 40% of respondents working for employers with a "high social purpose" cited the desire to change, compared with 56% who work for other types of companies; female respondents were 50% more likely to view social purpose as crucial when choosing a job.
Approximately 23% of surveyed tech professionals said they left their last job for better opportunities for skills training and personal development elsewhere. Moreover, 30% expect their current skills to be outdated within three years, while 60% expect their skills will be out of date in six years. Harvey Nash CEO Beverley White said, "Training and skills development perhaps speaks for itself—but social purpose is quite subtle."
