This year’s QS World University Rankings evaluated over 5,500 universities from around the world in a total of 48 disciplines.

The rankings are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities. This year's methodology is available online.

Rankings by location were launched last year.
