With schools and colleges shut and a job crisis brewing in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, millions are flocking to online courses. Raghav Gupta, managing director of India and Asia-Pacific for Coursera, the online learning platform, has seen a huge spike in use of the platform over the past few months.

Over 8 million Indians are currently using Coursera, Gupta says. "In March and April this year, the usage of our platform in India went up by 1,400 percent compared to the same period last year," he says.

Both students and working professionals are investing time to improve their skillsets. "There's a significant rise in the number of people taking job-relevant courses."

"In the last few months, some of the key areas of content consumption on our platform are business, technology, and data science, along with leadership and managemetn skills," Raghav says. Courses in Python, AI, and ML were popular before the pandemic, but are increasingly seen as valuable skills for the future.
