Techshare Project, an entirely student-led, nonprofit organization in Livingston, N.J., aims to introduce underprivileged children to science, technology, engineering and math. Since its inception, the group, which has over 140 volunteers, has given more than 400 children access to STEM resources and raised more than $1,000.
The nonprofit's executive board is made up of students and most of its volunteers are students. Only a handful of adult mentors are involved.
Techshare is helping students in New Jersey and in other countries as well. Last year, the group partnered with the Peace Corps and The Batey Foundation to travel to the Dominican Republic.
The nonprofit was founded in 2017 by high-schooler Molly Cantillon. "I was fascinated with STEM and wanted other kids to have the same experience," Cantillon says. Students without STEM classes " were missing magic and something I really loved, and I wanted to share that with them," she says.
