Teenager Samvit Agarwal launched a non-profit organization, CS Remastered, in 2018 to guide kids from grades 3 to 12 with free computer science education.
Since then Agarwal and 249 other high school student volunteers have used Discord to tutor hundreds of students. The organization now has five different branches — in New Jersey, California, Ohio, China, and India.
The coronavirus has given Agarwal and his team a push.
"Before the pandemic, we taught in person at local libraries," says Agarwal, a senior at West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional High School South. "We have seen an increase in participation and more people willing to participate. Moving the teaching to online has been pretty seamless."
