Industry-Academia Cooperation On the Rise at IFEZ
The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) hosts a cluster of foreign universities' campuses in Korea.

Cooperation between foreign universities and local businesses is growing in South Korea's Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ), after revisions to regulations on promoting industry-academia collaboration went into effect in September.
The revisions enable foreign universities to set up related units and offer relevant programs. The developments could turn the IFEZ into a base for industry-academia cooperation and a potential engine for growth.
State University of New York (SUNY) Korea became the first school to establish a division in charge of collaboration between industry and academia on Sept. 25. The school has taken on 135 research projects worth 34.4 billion won (US$31.1 million) since its opening in 2012.
The school is comprised of Stony Brook University (SBU) and the Fashion Institute of Technology. SBU specializes in divisions such as computer science, applied math and statistics, mechanical engineering, and technology management. The school plans to conduct local and global research projects in cooperation with the Incheon government.
Five foreign universities are currently at the Incheon Global Campus: SUNY Korea SBU, George Mason University, Ghent University, Utah University Asia Campus, and SUNY Korea FIT.
