Amazon is making a $15 million donation to nonprofit Code.org to support the development and launch of a new equity-minded Advanced Placement computer science programming curriculum. The new curriculum will teach students the same tools and concepts as the existing AP Computer Science A course, but in a way that considers the cultural perspectives, interests, and experiences of Black, Latino, Native American, and students of other underrepresented groups. The program's goal is to grow the number of participants in the program and ultimately increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who will pursue a career in engineering.

With this program, Amazon hopes to double the amount of students from underrepresented groups taking the Advanced Placement Computer Science A course within five years of its launch.

The curriculum will center on four areas to drive equity: consider cultural references and learning styles; acknowledge the diversity of experiences and interests as essential to equity; adopt a "Software Engineering for All" narrative; and develop real-world career skills.
