A bill filed last week in the Arkansas House of Representatives would allow computer science classes to qualify for foreign language credit for high school students.
House Bill 1711 would allow Programming, Advanced Placement Computer Science, Advanced Placement Computer Science A, Computer Science Standard Level, and Computer Science Higher Level to be counted as a foreign language.
Vincent Price, a language teacher at Wilbur D. Mills University Studies High School, says he understands the intent of the bill but disagrees with its scope. "When you break down and think through it all, it falls short," he says.
