Utah Program Helps Moms Transition to Tech Careers

Valerie Witt made the transition from third-grade teacher to area partnership manager for Skill Struck, a provider of computer science education platforms, with the help of a new program in Utah called Tech-Moms.
Tech-Moms serves as a bridge between companies seeking more diverse talent and women looking to transition into tech careers, says Tech-Moms co-founder Robbyn Scribner.
Last fall, Witt was among nearly 30 participants in the program's first two group. This spring, Tech-Moms is running two more groups in partnership with Weber State University and Utah Valley University. They are also working on launching Tech-Moms Latina, Scribner says, as well as an online version for those in rural Utah.
The program teaches women basic skills in coding, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They also bring in guest speakers to expose participants to a variety of careers and help them network.
