Famous Stanford Coding Course Online for Free
A free version of a popular Stanford intro to coding course is being offered online this spring. "Code in Place" is accepting applications for teachers through March 25, and for students from April 2 through April 8.
Computer science faculty members Chris Piech and Mehran Sahami developed the online class after shelter-in-place orders were imposed last spring. It became available in April 2020 and in five weeks enabled over 10,000 students in 120 countries to learn computer programming from 900 volunteer teachers.
Details are described in "Code in Place: Online Section Leading for Scalable Human-Centered Learning," published as part of the 52nd ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education.
The course consists of weekly lecture videos, a 50-minute interactive section, and four assignments. Online discussion is encouraged to take advantage of the large, diverse, international Code in Place community.
