Danielle Park was one of the few girls in her AP computer science class at Paramus High School, in New Jersey. She saw mostly men in the computer science research programs she participated in outside of school, too. Even textbooks featured illustrations of men on their covers.
So she wrote, graphically designed, and self-published her own book, "Under One Condition: An Introduction to Computer Science Principles and Programming in Python." The book is an introduction to computer science principles and programming aimed at middle and high school students.
"I really want my book to reach girls of a younger age and inspire them no matter their race, gender or identity," Park says.
Park, 15, plans to use proceeds from the book's sales for web-hosting costs for a summer program she founded called Bergen CodeHers.
