The Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed will be located on the National University of Singapore's Kent Ridge campus.

The National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and key stakeholders in Singapore have established a US$17.3 million research program to develop innovative and sustainable cooling solutions for data centers located in tropical locations. A testbed facility will be set up in NUS to promote co-creation and demonstration of such advanced cooling technologies.

The Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed will serve as an innovation hub for academia and industry to work together with the region's data center industry. The facility is expected to be operational by 1 October 2021.

"Data centers are the backbone of Singapore's national digital transformation, and there is a need to improve their energy efficiency and sustainability as we continue to grow as a data center hub," says NTU's senior vice president Professor Lam Khin Yong. "The initiative is a national open innovation platform where academia and industry players jointly develop and testbed new cooling technologies that will benefit the entire data center ecosystem."
