Alibaba Cloud Spends $1 Billion on Skills Development, Filipino Data Center

Alibaba's cloud division plans to secure $1 billion over three years to develop digital skills in Southeast Asia, including training for 100,000 developers and support for startups. It also announced plans to open its first data center in the Philippines and an innovation center in Malaysia.
Alibaba Cloud said the investment is part of an initiative to strengthen the digital talent pool, innovation, and infrastructure in the region.
This includes the launch of an initiative between Singapore's Computer Science and Engineering and Nanyang Technological University's NTU-Alibaba Singapore Joint Laboratory, offering artificial intelligence courses under the university's MiniMasters program.
Alibaba has also announced plans to open its first data center in the Philippines by the end of 2021. The center will provide training in technology and business skillsets, and a platform for startups to interact as mentors with experienced entrepreneurs and industry professionals.
