International Students Ride America's STEM Job Boom
Computing and IT courses are the most popular among international STEM students in the U.S.

Over half of international students in the U.S. are studying or working in STEM, with computer technology as the number one STEM major, according to the Institute of International Education. Most students come from China, India, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia.
Computer and information technology jobs are set to grow "much faster than the average for all occupations," according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. STEM jobs are projected to grow 11% from 2019 to 2029, which will create over 500,000 jobs in the American labor market.
A high-paying salary is an incentive. "In much of the U.S., STEM graduates are in short supply," said a 2021 study by the National Foundation for American Policy. "Students who graduate with a STEM major typically earn more than other graduates."
Tech and political leaders recognize the value of the international graduates. In July 2020, companies such as Google, Facebook, and Microsoft wrote to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, "America's future competitiveness depends on attracting and retaining talented international students."
