A survey by Stack Overflow finds that salary, flexibility, and opportunities to learn are the top reasons engineers look for a new job.

The survey of 500 developers says that only 25% of developers are searching for a new job, while 54% are not actively looking but are open to a new job.

Among those looking for a new job, money is still the top motivator. Salary was cited by 65% of respondents, working with new technologies by 39%, better work-life balance by 36%, and growth or leadership opportunities by 35%.

For those planning to stay in their jobs, flexibility was cited by 65%, above all other factors. Salary was cited by 59%, and opportunities to learn by 56%.

The survey also found that developers disliked set working hours even more than working in-person, at 56% compared to 50%, respectively.
