Finding qualified developers will be the biggest recruitment challenge for hiring managers in 2022, according to 14,000 developers and technology recruiters polled by coding platform CodinGame and technical interview facilitator CoderPad.

The survey found 35% of employers hope to recruit over 50 developers this year, while 15% are aiming for over 200. Matching candidates with specialist business needs is particularly difficult, with Web development, DevOps, and artificial intelligence/machine learning among the skills most prized by recruiters.

Finding enough full-stack and back-end engineers to meet demand could be a struggle, respondents said. The top three programming languages recruiters will look for this year are JavaScript, Java, and Python.

The poll also indicates that employers are turning to freelancers and contractors, with 42% of recruiters saying they've become more reliant on them during the pandemic.
