IT Technician Jailed for Revenge Cyber Attacks
Judge Mark Watson called called Georgeson's actions "revenge attacks" at sentencing.
A resentful IT technician in the U.K. has been sentenced to prison for launching cyber assaults against two of his former employers — a school and an IT firm — after he was dismissed by both.
Leicester Crown Court sentenced Adam Georgeson, 29, to 21 months in jail after pleading guilty to two charges of computer abuse.
Georgeson began working at Welland Park Academy as an apprentice in December 2016. He didn't tell the school that he had two prior fraud convictions, and was let go in February 2017.
He later joined Millennium Computer Services, an IT firm. He was employed there when he launched the cyber-attack on the school in January 2021. Georgeson's activities meant nobody was able to access the school's IT systems for nearly ten days. In March 2021, he made unauthorized changes including amending passwords to Millennium's systems.
