Companies are raising wages, offering more remote positions, and increasingly competing at a global level to attract software engineers of all stripes, according to the 2022 State of Software Engineers by tech worker marketplace Hired. Companies were paying, on average, about $156,000 for software engineers in the United States.
"To win top engineering talent, companies have to offer increasingly competitive salaries, flexibility, and most importantly, extend their talent pipelines outside of traditional technology hubs to other regions globally," said Josh Brenner, CEO at Hired Inc., in a statement.
In San Diego, about 66% of software engineer jobs were for remote jobs. Denver, Minneapolis, Austin, and Los Angeles saw a similar proportion of remote jobs.
