'Age Is No Bar' for 59-Year-Old in Master's Certificate Program

Shubhra Das, an IT professional and educator from Kolkata, India, enrolled in a graduate certificate program at the University of Illinois at age 59, marking her return to the classroom as a student after more than three decades and earning her a shout out on Twitter from her elder son.
"My mom, at nearly 60 years of age, is pursuing a Masters in Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign," tweeted her son, Debarghya, who earned his bachelor's and master's degree in computer science from Cornell University. " She says 'anyone who stops learning is old.'" His tweet has garnered several thousand likes, retweets, and replies from people who expressed admiration, well wishes, or shared their stories of returning to school or desire to.
Shubhra Das listens to lectures at her own pace and from her home, which is 11.5 hours ahead of Urbana-Champaign.
"My husband (who also has a degree in computer science) always said I should look to fulfilling my ambitions when my kids grow up," Das said. "Everyone can and should go back to school later in life if they still have the hunger for knowledge. If someone loves learning, then age is no bar at all."
