New Orleans locals can now order a craft beer created by an artificial intelligence platform. The AI Blonde Ale was released by NOLA Brewing Co. on June 20 to coincide with the IEEE/CVF Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference.

"It's state-of-the-art technology with the traditional brewing methods," says Derek Lintern, a brewer at NOLA Brewing. "It's a recipe I would have never done normally, but I really like how it tastes. It's very refreshing and very easy drinking."

The beer was an experiment between the Australian Institute for Machine Learning and Barossa Valley Brewing, founded by Denham D'Silva.

The AI system is fed data of online beer ratings and passes that information on to the brewer. "This is what the market is thinking, dynamically, in real time," D'Silva says. The AI beer will only be available in New Orleans for a limited time.
