CS Education Is Gaining Momentum, But Some Say Not Fast Enough
Schools with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students are less likely to offer foundational computer science courses.

Despite broad support for expanding computer science education to prepare today's students for tomorrow's careers, the number of students taking CS education courses continues to rise at just a modest pace and stubborn gaps in access to courses persist, according to the 2022 State of Computer Science Education report by Code.org.
Though billions of dollars in one-time federal money has been spent for new laptops, tablets, and Internet connectivity, just 53 percent of U.S. high schools offered foundational computer science classes in 2022, up slightly from the 2021.
Just seven states have adopted Code.org's nine recommended policies for expanding computer science education.
