Research Suggests Human Brains Use Quantum Computation

Certain brain functions operate non-classically, researchers say.

Scientists from Trinity College Dublin believe the human brain could use quantum computation after adapting an idea developed to prove the existence of quantum gravity to explore the brain and its workings.

The scientists believe their observations of electrophysiological potentials were only possible because the nuclear proton spins in the brain were entangled.

"That would mean that brain processes must have interacted with the nuclear spins, mediating the entanglement between the nuclear spins," says Christian Kerskens, lead physicist at the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience, and co-author of the team's published research. "As a result, we can deduce that those brain functions must be quantum."
