Skills Shortage and Recession Fears Could Halt Tech Investment

An independent survey of more than 750 U.K. businesses found that a "damaging" skills gap and economic uncertainties will prevent a majority from making improvements to their digital platforms in 2023.

Forty-six percent of decision-makers said their businesses planned to update, refresh, or completely recreate their websites, apps, or customer-facing tech, but 65% lack the skills to do so, and 48% report a "damaging" lack of digital skills within their business. Worries of a recession, high inflation, and rising interest rates will hold back 65%.

"With tight budgets and limited internal expertise, businesses must be extremely savvy in the way they plan and execute digital projects next year," says Studio Graphene founder Ritam Gandhi.
