Almost three-quarters (74%) of developers are actively looking for new roles or are open to fresh opportunities, according to a StackOverflow survey of 2,600 developers. Younger developers are more likely to be actively looking for their next role.
"Developers should continue to be confident about their employment prospects because they remain very much in demand," says StackOverflow CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar. Despite economic uncertainty, there isn't a meaningful pool of untapped technical talent available. Recent layoffs do not signal the reversal of long-standing imbalances in developer supply and demand, Chandrasekar says.
Fifty-four percent of respondents say better salary is the largest motivator when considering a new opportunity. The desire to work with new technologies is the second most cited reason.
