A study from Iowa State University indicates more education increases entrepreneurship in the United States, especially for women.

"Our study provides a piece of evidence that additional years of education after high school can boost self-employment in high-growth industries," says Economics Professor John Winters, co-author with graduate student Kunwon Ahn of the paper published in Small Business Economics.

The researchers found that additional schooling led to more self-employment in high-growth industries for men and women, to more self-employment in low-to-medium growth industries for women but not for men, and to less self-employment in shrinking industries for men.

High-growth industries included e-commerce, computer and data processing services, child care, veterinary services, and newer sub-industries in health, education, and social services, Winters said.
