SpaceX has partnered with Level Ex to use video games to train the crew of the upcoming Polaris Dawn spaceflight to perform medical ultrasound procedures.

Building on the work it started with NASA in 2019 to create a realistic real-time ultrasound simulation, Level Ex partnered with SpaceX and others to develop just-in-time training and in-flight procedural guidance to help crews use an ultrasound. During the Polaris Dawn mission, the crew will track their blood flow patterns and measure the effectiveness of just-in-time training.

Level Ex uses real-time simulation technology to gamify medical training, and has more than one million medical professionals using its games, says founder and CEO Sam Glassenberg.
