Trust Is Hard to Restore After Robot Co-Worker Makes Mistakes

Humans are less forgiving of robot co-workers after multiple mistakes — and the trust is difficult to restore, according to a University of Michigan study.
Mistakes by robots violate a human's trust, often makes the robots less trustworthy, which ultimately decreases trust in them.
The experiment involved 240 participants who worked with a robot co-worker to accomplish a task, with the robot sometimes making mistakes. The published study examines four repair strategies that might mitigate the negative impacts of trust violations.
After three mistakes, none of the repair strategies ever fully repaired trustworthiness, the study found.
