Computer Science Majors Will Earn Less This Year
Two-thirds of surveyed employers expect to hire computer science graduates this year.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) projects a 4% year-over-year decline in starting salaries to $72,843 for 2023 graduates with bachelor's degrees in computer science.
Graduates in other majors, including math and engineering, are projected to see marginal gains of 0.7%, likely due to "the recent recalibration among tech companies, which have traditionally offered top dollar," says NACE Executive Director Shawn VanDerziel.
Technology firms have cut more than 100,000 jobs since Jan. 1 due to decelerating growth, says job loss tracker Layoffs.fyi.
While computer science majors will be offered the second-highest average starting salaries after engineering grads this year, according to NACE, it predicts 2023 grads will start out, on average, at the same wage level as those who graduated in 2021.
