Amazon has rejected a petition by 30,000 employees to retain flexible working, while Apple is reportedly tracking staff who fail to report to the office three times a week. And the "office is not optional" for Twitter employees, according to a 2:30am email from CEO Elon Musk.
Amazon employees sent their petition to the office of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy after he insisted that employees come into the office for a minimum of three days per week starting May 1. The petition stated that working from home is beneficial and cited an internal survey that found a preference for remote and flexible work within the company's workforce.
The return to office policy will remain, said Amazon Senior Vice President Beth Galetti.
Apple is tracking employee attendance and will give employees escalating warnings if they don't come to the office three times a week, published reports say.
