Where the AI Jobs Are
California's share of all AI job postings has declined since 2019, suggesting the jobs are becoming more distributed.

AI jobs exploded across the United States in 2022, with California as the top state for AI-related hiring with more than 142,000 positions posted, according to the 2023 AI Index Report from Stanford University's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.
Investments from large tech and venture firms led to nearly 800,000 AI-related job openings nationwide, the report says. Other top states were Texas, New York, and Florida.
Some regions not typically known as tech hubs punched above their weight. In Washington, D.C., for example, nearly 3% of job postings were in AI, nearly double the national average of 1.5%. Smaller states like Delaware (2.66%) and Arkansas (2.03%) were also above the national average.
