Layoffs Are Making Tech Less Diverse

Women and ethnic minorities are more likely than male colleagues to lose their jobs in tech sector layoffs.

Around 45% of tech sector job cuts globally in 2023 involved women, who make up around 27% of tech industry jobs.

A disproportionate amount of women and people of color are being affected because they were much more likely to hold the kind of roles which are presently considered more expendable. These tend to be the less technical jobs in support, HR, communications, and marketing.
