Singapore rail and bus operator SBS Transit will deploy a four-legged robot from local developer Weston Robot to perform repairs on trains.
The robot, called kAI, will be implemented at the North East Line Depot, managing tasks like Mass Rapid Transit train inspections and detecting missing parts underneath trains in order to halve inspection time.
kAI will eventually add non-visual capabilities such as thermal imaging and sound sensing to identify components for repair, according to The Straits Times.
SBS Transit will also utilize three-dimensional printing to supply train parts that are neither readily available nor in high demand, saving time and costs while also furnishing a resilient supply chain and reducing the operator's carbon footprint.
