Ranking the Best Computer Scientists

The average D-index for the top 5% of computer scientists is 102 vs. an average of 48 for all scholars in the rankings.

The 9th edition of Research.com ranking of the best scientists in the field of Computer Science is based on data consolidated from various data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for evaluating the citation-based metrics were collected on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a scholar's Discipline H-index.

The affiliation with the highest number of leading scientists in the world is Microsoft with 249 scientists in the Computer Science ranking. It is followed by Google with 240 researchers. Ranking third is Carnegie Mellon University with 168 scientists.

Professor Anil K. Jain from Michigan State University is featured as the best scientist in the world in the ranking with a D-index of 203. Number two is Yoshua Bengio from University of Montreal with a D-index of 200. The third spot is taken by Jiawei Han from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a D-index of 186.

The average number of published papers in the field for the top 10% of researchers is 470 against an average of 243 for all scientists. The average number of citations for the top 1% researchers is 107,634 against an average of 15,105 for all scientists.
