The U.S. Cities With The Most Cutting-Edge Tech Workers
Seattle is beating other West Coast tech hubs in attracting talent with cutting-edge skills.

Seattle has the highest proportion of advanced tech workers with cutting-edge skills, defined as those most in-demand and most well-paid, according to the Burning Glass Institute's ranking of established and aspiring U.S. tech hubs.
"This ranking has a lot of really important lessons here for cities and some warning signs," says Burning Glass President Matt Sigelman. "You can be a city with a relatively large tech workforce, but if that tech workforce doesn't have the same concentration of the most valuable talent, of the most valuable skills, then you can lose your edge very quickly."
Rounding out the top 10 list of cutting-edge cities are San Jose, San Francisco, Boston, Austin, San Diego, New York, Los Angeles, Portland, and Raleigh metro areas.
Among cutting-edge skills are those related to cloud and serverless computing, machine learning and artificial-intelligence architecture, and cybersecurity operations. "Some of these frontier skills that are growing the fastest and are commanding the highest value show up in places where you wouldn't have seen them in the past," Sigelman says.
