Remote Work, Reduced Pay: Many Are Willing to Make the Trade
Studies show that working from home is a good for well-being, work-life balance, and health.

Almost half of workers are willing to sacrifice part of their annual salary to work from home, according to research by the University of South Australia, which found that 45% of workers would be willing to accept a pay cut in exchange for remote work flexibility.
The research published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization found that the average worker is willing to give up 4% to 8% of their salary, and that one fifth of participants would be willing to sacrifice 16% to 33% of salaries. But 55% would be unwilling to give up a portion of their wages.
Workers who had more experience with remote work before the pandemic are more concerned about their relationship with colleagues and supervisors, and on missing out on opportunities for learning and career advancement, says lead researcher Associate Professor Akshay Vij.
The study found that workers in their 30s and 50s were more likely to value the ability to work from home, and that workers in their 20s valued remote work the least. Female workers were almost 30% more likely to value remote work than their male counterparts.
