Employers Use Holiday Parties to Judge Employee Behavior

Workers with ambition should be mindful of the impression they make at a social event.

While workplace parties are meant to be relaxing social events between co-workers, they also present opportunities to be judged and assessed by your higher-ups.

Experts in the working world say that upcoming Christmas get-togethers around the office are just as much a chance for employees to be assessed and evaluated as they are for workers to enjoy themselves.

"You're always evaluating your employees at all levels," says Dean Salakas, who runs The Party People supply chain. "A Christmas party would be no exception."

Excessive alcohol consumption and inappropriate behavior are big red flags.

"You can go out there and have fun at office parties, but be sensible," says Jon Michail, group CEO of Image Group International. "Know the risk standards, and know your reputation will be judged whether you like it or not."
