According to Foote Partners, recent unemployment figures show a mixed outlook for IT jobs. The good news is that some IT hiring segments are actually showing improvement, despite a rising national unemployment rate and the loss of 345,000 jobs in May. Foote Partners, which based its findings on data from the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Statistics, reported on IT hiring across sectors and geographies. The data indicates that there is a continuing counter-trending evident in important IT job segments.
One standout in the jobs data was the technical consulting services segment, which added 2,300 jobs in April and May. In addition, communications equipment jobs experienced a net increase of 200 jobs over the last three months. The recession has had minimal negative impact on demand for IT skills and jobs in the following areas: IT architecture, project management, business process management, security, communications, and several ERP and infrastructure specializations.
