Helping New Medical Graduates to Prescribe Safely
Aston University researchers have developed the Standard Computerized Revalidation Instrument for Prescribing and Therapeutics (SCRIPT) project, an e-learning toolkit designed to ensure that new doctors prescribe medicine safely from their first day on the job.
The SCRIPT project will produce 38 key modules that reflect the basic needs of Foundation Year 1 doctors, who are more likely to make mistakes when prescribing medications. SCRIPT will allow doctors to reach minimum standards in prescribing and enable them to build upon their existing skills. "Improving the prescribing skills of doctors during their formative professional years will improve patient safety in the short term, and may bring long-term benefits in safe and rational prescribing," says Ashton professor John Marriott.
The project has brought together a team of experts from several universities to develop the modules.
