Abi Announces First Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) announced Tuesday (Dec. 7) a turnout of almost 600 attendees from 79 organizations for the first Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India Conference. The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India is the only annual conference exclusively for technical women in India; it brings the research and career interests of women in computing in India to the forefront. Presenters are leaders in their respective fields representing industrial, academic and government communities. Leading researchers will present their current work, while special sessions will focus on the role of women in today's technology fields, including computer science, information technology, research and engineering. The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is taking place at the Vivanta by Taj, Bangalore, India, December 7 - 9, 2010.
"The Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing India Conference is more than just a conference. It's about creating a dedicated community of purely technical women in India. Over 100 Indian technical women from 50 organizations have worked together over the last year to develop sessions and content specific to the challenges for technical women. It's a conference created by technical women, for technical women. It's our hope to expand the conference and this community to include many more voices in the coming year," says Deanna Kosaraju, ABI's Vice President of Programs.
Wednesday (Dec. 8) will feature a keynote by Kalpana Margabandhu, Director of WebSphere Development, IBM India Software Lab. A Poster Session featuring 30 academic and industry posters will be featured. Conference sessions will address topics including cloud computing, network security, working in emerging markets, entrepreneurship and how to be a successful manager.
Thursday (Dec. 9) will feature a keynote by Nandini Chatterjee Singh of the National Brain Research Center. There will also be a Plenary Panel on the Challenges and Opportunities for Technical Women in India and the United States featuring Apala Chavan, Vice President of Human Factors International Asia; Krista Claude, Vice President Technology Thomson Reuters; Nagamani Murthy, Vice President of the Mobile, Automotive and Consumer Electronics business, Wipro; Rebecca Parsons, Chief Technology Officer, ThoughtWorks; Justin Rattner, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Intel, and Radha Shelat, CEO Aviram Networks & Nevis Networks.
