Truck drivers will be able to receive assistance tailored to their specific needs while on the road using LogiAssist, a system developed by researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT). LogiAssist is designed to provide training content via devices used in the cab, such as a smartphone, tablet computer, or laptop.

The learning environment takes prior knowledge, the driver, the vehicle, the load, and the route into account to ensure that the training content is adapted to the relevant context. "The purpose of the system is to help drivers and trucking firms handle their occupational training needs," says FIT's Martin Wolpers. LogiAssist is part of a larger European Union project to develop learning environments for various sectors called Responsive Open Learning Environments.

The researchers have developed standards and applications for using a wide range of materials on an individually configured learning platform. Content can be put together from a kit of ready-made tools, and the learning environment is designed to adapt to the learning and working style of the user.
